Altipinna Rhoadsia: A Detailed Examination

Body Shape Variation and Population Genetic Structure

Rhoadsia altipinna, a species of characid fish, exhibits remarkable variation in body shape across its geographic range. This variation has been the subject of numerous studies, which have sought to understand the underlying genetic and environmental factors that contribute to these differences. One study, published in the journal "Ecology and Evolution," examined the body shape variation of R. altipinna populations from three different rivers in western Ecuador.

Feeding Habits and Distribution

R. altipinna is a small, schooling fish that feeds primarily on small crustaceans, mollusks, and aquatic plants. It is found in the coastal rivers of western Ecuador, where it inhabits clear, fast-flowing waters. Two species in the subfamily Rhoadsiinae, both in the genus Rhoadsia, occur in western Ecuador.
